GameStop To Sell PC Download Codes At Retail
GameStop is further expanding its PC strategy, with news that the retailer will soon allow customers to purchase digital PC downloads at their stores. Players can put trade credit toward those new games, too.
“This is a great illustration of how the digital distribution model and in-store experience really complement one another,” said Steve Nix, GameStop’s general manager of digital distribution. “We have seen great success selling DLC for console titles in our stores, so expanding on that model and helping customers discover digitally distributed PC games in stores is a natural fit.”
The service will begin with the August 23 release of Square-Enix's Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Customers who purchase the game ahead of time will receive a number of bonuses, including digital versions of Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition and Deus Ex: Invisible War for PC; the Explosive Mission DLC pack; and double points for the store's PowerUp Rewards loyalty program.
Does the concept of going to a store to buy a download code appeal to you?
GameStop is the parent company of Game Informer.

IndieCity Offers Developers New Distribution Channel
A new distribution service for indie games is on the horizon, and it’s called IndieCity. The new digital distribution channel will be packed with indie games and nothing else. It also presents a promising new venue for game makers to get their projects to the masses without stressing about deadlines or publisher pressure.
"There isn't a single one-stop destination that covers enough of the indie gaming scene in our opinion," said co-founder Chris Swan during a chat with Gamasutra. "We all found that we were browsing numerous blogs and forums to try and stay on top of the scene, and knew that IndieCity could do better than that."
“We wanted to do something that really celebrated the diversity and creativity that indie games have to offer, and ignore the generic mainstream behemoths," he continued.
Until now, Valve’s digital distribution juggernaut Steam has been the big man on campus for selling indie games. Steam’s frequent Humble Indie Bundles allow developers to enjoy increased sales while reaching a wider audience. IndieCity faces the daunting challenge of having to be a more appealing than Steam to indie developers, but Swan is optimistic.

EA Pulls Dragon Age II From Steam
It looks like there's a feud brewing between Electronic Arts and Valve's popular digital distribution service. Continuing a pattern of EA titles being pulled or not made available on Steam, BioWare's Dragon Age II is no longer available on the site.
Apparently, Dragon Age II was pulled by EA due to a disagreement about DLC. David DeMartini, senior vice president of global e-commerce for EA, told IGN, ""Unfortunately, Steam has adopted a set of restrictive terms of service which limit how developers interact with customers to sell downloadable content. No other download service has adopted this practice. Consequently some of our games have been removed by Steam. We hope to work out an agreement to keep our games on Steam."
This reasoning is similar to the explanation given by EA for its decision to pull Crysis 2 from Steam. These developments, coupled with the announcements that Star Wars: The Old Republic and Battlefield 3 will also not be on Steam, seem to indicate that there is a rather serious problem between EA and Valve.
For more on the latest Dragon Age II "Legacy" DLC just released, check out Matt Miller's impressions.

505 Games Press Release Suggests Vita Will Release In 2011
With conflicting reports circulating about the release date of the PlayStation Vita, a new press release from publisher 505 Games indicates that the system will hit our shores sometime this holiday season.
Conflicting rumors had said that the Vita might release on either November 4th of this year or January of 2012. Today, 505 Games issued a press release for its Vita title Supremacy MMA that featured the headline "Supremacy MMA Takes the Fight to the Streets with PlayStation Vita This Fall."
A 2011 release date for Supremacy MMA was mentioned elsewhere in the release.
Video game news site GameSpot asked 505 to clarify and received the response, "All of the information we currently have available is in the press release." Meanwhile, MCV heard back from another 505 representative who said the date was "only speculative."
Let's hope 505 Games is correct, as we here at Game Informer are very excited to get our hands on the Vita.
